Training with high value rewards, without overdoing it

Break it small, keep it fast, and save the liver for the moments that count.

Training with high value rewards, without overdoing it

Know your currencies

Every pet has a pay scale. Kibble is small change. Freeze dried liver is the big note. Use the strong stuff for hard things: recall at the park, calm at the vet, a new trick.

Smaller is faster

A reward should be gone in one second so training keeps moving. Split each piece into pea sized bits. Twenty reps from one piece is normal.

Count the session

Keep sessions to five minutes. Count the pieces before you start and subtract them from the day’s total.

Our picks

Beef Liver for the hardest asks. Turkey Liver for pets with a sensitive stomach. Turkey Hearts when you need a firmer piece that holds up in a pocket.
