Start with the 10 percent rule
Treats should make up no more than 10 percent of what your pet eats in a day. The rest comes from a complete food. Freeze dried single ingredient treats are dense, so a few pieces go a long way.
Pieces per day, by weight
| Under 20 lb | 2 to 4 pieces |
| 20 to 50 lb | 4 to 6 pieces |
| 50 to 90 lb | 6 to 8 pieces |
| Over 90 lb | 8 to 10 pieces |
Adjust for the day
Long run, big hike or a training session? Use the high end and trim dinner a little. Quiet day on the couch? Stay low. Seniors and pets watching their weight do well on Beef Lung, which is light and airy.
Break it small
Every piece breaks clean by hand. For training, split a piece into four. Your pet counts rewards, not grams.
